Bay St. Louis, MS

Travelogue  ~

On the last leg of the Great Alaskan Adventure–heading down the midwestern states to New Orleans, before heading home to Vegas.

We swung by Graceland (Memphis, TN) on the way to N’Orleans. $10 parking, $30 initial fee. They charge extra for each floor and some private areas. Said ‘no thanks’ and turned around. Later heard on radio how to download 1/2 off discount tickets. Oh well, next time.

Oregon’s visitor’s center had stainless steel pottie seats. Louisanna? Marble, gold and personal soap dispensers, and the sweet smell of the south. (See my album on facebook–click the blog picture to get there.)

Hwy 55 into N’orleans was shutdown ’cause of an accident, so I had to detour somewhere, and headed east to Mississippi. Bay St. Louis is on the Gulf, so I tried to follow a road by the Bay. Lotsa empty lots, some with only the driveway and pool still standing.

In the album, you’ll see the driveway to no where. There are a lot of those on the Gulf Coast in Bay St. Louis. It’s weird that most of the places still had mailboxes! Driveways were being overtaken by weeds.

I don’t think this place will ever recover.
